Sean Perry

Owner

Sean realized early in life that he loves and appreciates the craftsmanship of artisans past, so it is no surprise that restoring and renovating historic structures turned into his life’s work. He first developed his talents at a fine furniture restoration company, which led to his first business, Saddle Hill Furniture Restoration — named after a site on his grandfather’s dairy farm in East Tennessee. When not in the office or on-site at a project, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and digging into the history and trails of Western North Carolina.

Anne Berlin

Designer/Estimator

Anne is grateful for the opportunity to guide clients through the selection process, helping them discover the perfect balance of form and function that truly reflects their style. She brings a solution-oriented mindset to our team, shaped by a career rooted in creativity, precision, and adaptability. Working at Disney taught her that anything is possible— and to find joy in the details. Touring work helped hone her organization, efficiency, and flexibility. Anne applies those foundations to commercial and residential design, gaining perspective that she’s proud to share on every project.

Zach Boye

Lead Carpenter

Zach is passionate about woodworking and crafting with his hands, and he appreciates the professionalism and high quality of work that are standard at The Hands of Sean Perry. With more than 30 years of experience, his proficiency and enthusiasm are demonstrated in the fine work he contributes to each renovation. A Nebraska native who came to Asheville after eight years in Portland, Oregon, Zach enjoys birdwatching, fun socks, cooking with his wife, Jansen, and spending quality time with their Great Dane, Cora.

Jackey Bradbury

Lead Carpenter

Jackey is a highly-skilled carpenter who has been with The Hands of Sean Perry since 2016, and was a trusted subcontractor for years before joining the team. He also brings more than 20 years’ expertise in grading, excavation, and concrete work to the team. His strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to always tackle a challenge ensure that our renovations result in happy homeowners. In his off time, Jackey enjoys being outdoors, campfires, and listening to good music.

Colby Byrn

Carpenter

Combined with his background in specialty woodworking, Colby’s curious and creative nature fuels his passion as both a craftsman and artist. His preciseness and attention to detail in all of his work makes him an integral part of the team at The Hands of Sean Perry. Colby arrived in Asheville from the Bay Area of California, where he worked for a high-end custom cabinetry and furniture company that has created furniture pieces and full build-outs for clients including MOMA and a two-star Michelin restaurant. If he’s not busy working or making music, he’s likely out exploring waterfalls with his wife or cozy at home with their cats, Rick and Eddie.

Pat Clements

Office Manager

Pat grew up in the mountains of upstate New York in a construction family, where she learned to know and appreciate quality craftsmanship and woodworking artistry — so it’s no wonder she gravitated to the mountains of Western North Carolina and to The Hands of Sean Perry. Her career in administrative support and management has been spent in higher education, early education nonprofits, and engineering, bringing a diverse set of skills to her position keeping the company and team organized. In her spare time, Pat enjoys quilting, reading, solving jigsaw puzzles and exploring the beauty that is WNC with her husband, Paul, and furbabies, Riley and Tilly.

Sterling Crandall

Carpenter

Sterling’s artistic background has always coincided with carpentry. Both a sculptor and glass artist, he received a bachelor’s degree in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s degree in spatial arts from San José State University. Now a carpenter with The Hands of Sean Perry, he feels the merging of art with the form and function of fine carpentry go hand in hand, and he enjoys working for a company that honors craftsmanship and artisans as an integral part of its mission. Sterling believes working with a crew of likeminded professionals makes for a cohesive team. Outside of work, he enjoys music, surfing, and farming — and he is grateful for time spent with his wife, Carla, and dog, Harlow.

David Datko

Lead Carpenter

David enjoys the variety of work that comes with seeing a project from start to finish, always relishing a good challenge from tricky trim details. He brings more than 13 years of construction experience to The Hands of Sean Perry, mostly focused on fine residential remodeling. Outside of work, David spends his time running, hiking, growing native plants and fostering dogs with his wife, Rachel, and their menagerie of resident pets: Kintla, Bear and Cashew.

Mike Figuera

Business Manager/Controller

Mike is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration from Western Carolina University. With more than 20 years of experience in management and accounting, he plays a key role in overseeing the company’s business. Mike lives in Weaverville with his wife Jesse and their three daughters — Vera, June, and Iona. In his free time, he enjoys serving the community and taking long walks with his dogs.

Yann Kay

Carpenter

The youngest carpenter on the team, Yann makes up for his age with his old soul and traditional work ethic. Spending his early years in both South and North Carolina, Yann worked closely with his father, learning hands-on as a mechanic from a young age. After studying construction management at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, he found his calling in carpentry. Yann put his skills to the test at The Hands of Sean Perry immediately after graduation, and he fell in love with the ins and outs of the trade. During his time off, Yann enjoys working on his truck and spending quality time with friends and family.

Jake Moran

Project Manager / Senior Lead Carpenter

Involved in the renovations of many iconic Asheville places — including Zambra, Doc Chey’s, the North Asheville Library, and the restoration of the Thomas Wolfe Memorial — Jake’s construction experience is woven into the city’s fabric. Having owned his own company before joining The Hands of Sean Perry, Jake loves that his current role allows him to focus solely on his craft while completing the project at hand. Aside from his work, Jake enjoys gardening, making music, traveling and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Tom Shields

Project Manager

Tom has spent more than 20 years refining his skills in the art of woodwork as a furniture maker, cabinetmaker and carpenter. He received an MFA in furniture design and woodworking from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and his work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. To him, woodwork is more than just a trade: It’s a personal form of artistic expression, and he enjoys working with clients to create functional items that represent their style and taste. With The Hands of Sean Perry, Tom relies on his experience to ensure every project blossoms into a beautiful work of art. When he’s not busy at work, he enjoys renovating his 1915 home, crafting art, going on adventures with his family, and reading comic books with his son.

Turner Thompson

Carpenter

Turner treats every task, down to the smallest detail, as an opportunity for careful craftsmanship and creative problem-solving. He found his love of carpentry while building rope courses and ziplines all over the world, and his previous work in landscaping taught him the delicate balance of function and beauty. A true North Carolina native, who has lived from Asheville to the Outer Banks and back, Turner knows the value that a well-built home brings to his own family’s day-to-day experience, and he finds it easy to both relate to clients’ needs and find solutions for the challenges of a busy household.

Justin Victoria

Carpenter

While supporting relief efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan, Justin discovered his passion for building with his hands — starting a program with the local fisherman crafting traditional outrigged canoes called bangka. After returning to the States, he studied woodworking at Laney College, then went on to study boat carpentry at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding. He moved to the East Coast to refine his seafaring skills, working with talented shipwrights, but instead found his passion in cabinetmaking and house carpentry. Off the job site, Justin can be found near his family farm in Marshall, where he raises merino sheep, pigs and chickens, or at the gym training in Thai boxing.

Scott Walle

Estimator

Scott plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between vision and execution. Collaborating closely with project managers, trade partners and key experts, he ensures the details of a project are aligned from the beginning. An experienced carpenter, Scott can uncover the “how” behind the “what,” and turn ideas into realities. Scott and the HoSP team develop comprehensive plans that anticipate challenges and minimize the unexpected, leading to a smoother construction process.

Angela Whelchel

Director of Project Development

A Flat Rock native, Angela has always called the mountains of WNC home. Holding a degree in interior design, she’s spent over 25 years in home interior and kitchen and bath design. These experiences shaped her approach to be equally technical, creative and client-focused. Angela brings thoughtful planning, problem-solving and collaboration to every project, helping turn client visions into meaningful, functional spaces.
